Job: morning line cook (Farmhouse Inn)

Farmhouse Inn is looking for one additional team member. Must have prior experience. This is a part time job to start. Friday-mon. 6 am to noon. Strong possibility to be full time for qualified applicants. Baking experience a plus. We are running a high end daily breakfast program for our guests of the inn. Dear diary: Vampire convention's in town

When 16-year-old Dana Jane Birthistle and her mother, Dana, found out that the "Vampire Diaries" television program was holding its first West Coast convention in the Bay Area, they knew it was their time to shine.

The mother-daughter pair from Forestville has been collecting the perfect costumes to mimic their favorite "Diaries" characters from head to toe, and this past weekend's event at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame offered them the ideal opportunity to roll out their outfits.

Another drowning in the Russian River

A 20-year-old Santa Rosa man drowned Tuesday in the Russian River, the waterway's second fatality in recent days, authorities said.

Antonio Garcia Jimenez was swimming with two friends around 4:20 p.m. on Sunset Beach near Forestville when he started thrashing and went under, said Lt. Steve Brown, a spokesman for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department.

SF boy critical after pulled from river

A 13-year-old San Francisco boy who was pulled unconscious from the Russian River after disappearing underwater Sunday afternoon was listed in critical condition Monday, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was swimming with friends at Steelhead Beach near Forestville in Sonoma County when he disappeared, said Lt. Steve Brown, a spokesman for the Sonoma County sheriff.

Bask Festival debuts in Forestville

The brand-new Bask Music and Arts Festival makes its debut Friday through Sunday, July 20-22, at Hilton Park Campground, 10750 River Road, Forestville.

The festival offers music by more than a dozen live bands, plus local artists, and food and drink from local restaurants, wineries and breweries.

Russian River Vineyards fights liquidation effort

Russian River Vineyards, which sought protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court last year while it attempted to reorganize its finances, is now fighting efforts to liquidate the Forestville winery and restaurant.

A federal trustee wants to convert the bankruptcy from Chapter 11, which has allowed the company to continue operating while it develops a repayment plan, to Chapter 7, which would force it to sell its assets and shut down.

A hearing in the Santa Rosa court, originally scheduled for Friday, was postponed for a week at the company's request.

Youths find body along Russian River in Forestville

No foul play was suspected in the death of a 48-year-old Santa Rosa man whose body was found on the banks of the Russian River last week, Sonoma County sheriff’s officials said Monday.
Raymond Strubeck was found dead July 4 in the weeds along the water’s edge near the north side of Wohler Bridge in Forestville, authorities said.

Claudia McDermott RIP

From her early days co-founding the Forestville Youth Park to her later years organizing a dining club for seniors, there was hardly a soul in Forestville whose life Claudia McDermott didn't touch.

She served on the local water board for decades, spearheading efforts to pave roads and install water and sewer lines in the Mirabel Heights neighborhood. Even in her final days, as she lay in the hospital, McDermott urged her loved ones to work on staving off water rate hikes.
McDermott, a longtime Forestville community activist and beloved matriarch, died of pneumonia on June 19. She was 89.
