“But that being said, I still am more confident of my financial security than I was a year ago,” she added. “I feel I can spend more because the economy is stronger and I feel renewed energy around me. Russian River Vineyards fights liquidation effort

Russian River Vineyards, which sought protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court last year while it attempted to reorganize its finances, is now fighting efforts to liquidate the Forestville winery and restaurant.

A federal trustee wants to convert the bankruptcy from Chapter 11, which has allowed the company to continue operating while it develops a repayment plan, to Chapter 7, which would force it to sell its assets and shut down.

A hearing in the Santa Rosa court, originally scheduled for Friday, was postponed for a week at the company's request.

Youths find body along Russian River in Forestville

No foul play was suspected in the death of a 48-year-old Santa Rosa man whose body was found on the banks of the Russian River last week, Sonoma County sheriff’s officials said Monday.
Raymond Strubeck was found dead July 4 in the weeds along the water’s edge near the north side of Wohler Bridge in Forestville, authorities said.

Claudia McDermott RIP

From her early days co-founding the Forestville Youth Park to her later years organizing a dining club for seniors, there was hardly a soul in Forestville whose life Claudia McDermott didn't touch.

She served on the local water board for decades, spearheading efforts to pave roads and install water and sewer lines in the Mirabel Heights neighborhood. Even in her final days, as she lay in the hospital, McDermott urged her loved ones to work on staving off water rate hikes.
McDermott, a longtime Forestville community activist and beloved matriarch, died of pneumonia on June 19. She was 89.

Give blood before the Townhall meeting

Tomorrow, June 27, you can give blood at the fire station between 3 and 7 PM. If you time it right yo can make it to the TownHall meeting at 7 PM. Here is the latest from the Forestville Planning Association about the meeting:

TOWN MEETING - WED JUNE 27, 7-8:30 pm
                  Oddfellows Hall
Corner of 116 and Covey Road

Agenda:
+Update on possible acquisition of Downtown Park Land *
+Update on Mirabel Road/Hwy 116 Roundabout
+Update on Forestville Community Fund Awards

*There is a lot of excitement about Forestville possibly getting a downtown square/park (the old Thiessen development).  In past Town Meetings our desire for such an area has been clear.  This Town Meeting will bring us up to date on the current process towards acquiring the land, and ask, what are your ideas and opinions?  How large a park do we want—all 8 acres or a smaller Town Square portion?  What are creative ways in which the park might be used (e.g. playing field/Youth Park expansion, Town Square , open space)?  How will it be maintained?  If we are given a matching grant by the Sonoma County Open Space District, how might we generate the other half?  Who might be the generous and visionary Angels who could bequeath this incredible legacy to the Town?  Let’s come together and imagine this unique opportunity!
