Teen escapes Forestville house fire that killed family dogs


A 17-year-old awoke to smoke in her Forestville home Tuesday morning and escaped through a bedroom window before a fire destroyed the residence.
The teen, her mother and little sister lost their Vellutini Road home and two family dogs, an older dog the family had had for 12 years and a Bull Mastiff puppy, reported Forestville Fire Chief Max Ming...

45 years to life sentence in Point Arena bank robbery

A Butte County bank robber who targeted small, rural institutions in hopes of easy getaways was sentenced last week to 45 years to life in state prison for a Point Arena robbery and is a suspect in two other holdups, including one in Forestville, authorities said...

Empowering women

Crews clear downed tree on River Road near Forestville


Crews have cleared a downed tree that was blocking westbound traffic Tuesday morning on River Road at Westside Road near Forestville, the CHP said.

But not until after a motorist reportedly ran directly into the tree, the CHP said.

There were no reports of injuries in the 8:09 a.m. incident, the CHP and emergency dispatchers said.

Thinking positive for the holidays


“I have never had much money, and I hate to see stuff wasted, which is why I'd rather make or re-use gifts when I can,” said retired teacher Karen Lockert of Forestville.

“But that being said, I still am more confident of my financial security than I was a year ago,” she added. “I feel I can spend more because the economy is stronger and I feel renewed energy around me. So if I can't make enough gifts in time, I will feel more comfortable than I did last year, as far as spending is concerned.”

Exhibition: The Last Hurrah at Quicksilver

El Molino night for 8th grade families is Nov. 15


El Molino High School is hosting “El Molino” night on Nov. 15 for eighth graders and their families to explore the Forestville campus and find out about programs offered, including four-year career development plans, fine arts, leadership and athletics as well as the core academic offerings.
The event is scheduled from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the school library.
Teachers, staff members, students and parents will be available to talk about El Molino’s programs as well as to answer questions.

Sebastopol walkers trekking to Forestville


The final “i walk sebastopol” event of the year will be a walk from the town plaza to Forestville on November 24.
The group will then take a Sonoma County Transit bus back to the plaza.
The only charge is the bus fare which is $1,85 for adults and $.90 for those 60-and-older.
The trek, to be led by Nick Kishmirian, will go along the West County Trail to Graton. After a rest stop, the group will continue to Forestville.
The seven-mile walk will take about 3 1/2 hours leaving hikers enough time to eat in Forestville before boarding the bus.
